Abstract: The current paper aims to explore the use of reading strategies of the tertiary level EFL (English as Foreign Language) learners in Bangladesh. The key purpose of the study was to investigate the most frequently used strategies of the students while reading academic texts in English. The data analysis process was conducted by using a quantitative method which was based on a questionnaire. 120 first-year students of the English department from three private universities in Bangladesh participated in this study. The result revealed that the participants were more likely to use cognitive strategies than metacognitive ones. The study also discusses the limitations of the findings along with the implication for further studies.
